Where are they now? 1984 Woodway girls basketball team

The 2A state champs will be inducted in the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

On Wednesday evening the 1984 Woodway High School girls basketball team will be inducted into the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame during a banquet at the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Angel of the Winds Arena.

The Warriors finished the season 25-2, winning the Northwest District and Region I titles, then went on to beat North Kitsap 54-52 in the title game on a last-second shot by Barb Wade.

Here’s a, “Where are they now?” of the players from that team:

Karen Bryant

Then: A sophomore forward who averaged 12.1 points per game, and mysteriously did not appear in the team photo in the school’s yearbook.

Now: Lives in Seattle where she is the CEO of Atavus Sports, which provides coaching resources and data analytics for football programs at all levels. She was inducted into the Snohomish County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 as a sports executive for her pioneering work with the WNBA’s Seattle Storm.

Jenny Galbreath

Then: A junior forward who averaged 1.1 points per game.

Now: Lives in Seattle where she works for the Amazon tax department as the director of state and local tax.

Jacquie Gilmore

Then: A junior center who averaged 5.4 points per game.

Now: Not available.

Brenda Harris

Then: A junior guard who averaged 1.4 points per game.

Now: Not available.

Kelly Joy

Then: A sophomore forward who averaged 10.4 points per game and was selected to the state All-Tournament Team.

Now: Lives in Mount Vernon where she’s a fourth-grade teacher in the Mount Vernon School District.

Colleen Mahoney

Then: A senior guard who averaged 0.8 points per game.

Now: Not available.

Sandy Mason

Then: A junior guard who averaged 2.7 points per game.

Now: Now Sandy Wolff, she lives in Snohomish and works for the City of Seattle doing down payment assistance loans for low-income home buyers.

Carol Olsen

Then: A junior guard who averaged 4.1 points per game and set a state tournament record with 11 assists in a single game.

Now: Lives in Naches where she works for the forest service.

Jodi Rinaldi

Then: A sophomore guard who averaged 0.6 points per game.

Now: Lives in Kalispell/Whitefish, Montana, and works as an instructional designer at Flathead Valley Community College.

Katie Romstead

Then: A junior guard who averaged 0.6 points per game.

Now: Now Katie Kauffman, she works in the Mukilteo School District teaching elementary physical education.

D’Arcy Russell

Then: A freshman center who averaged 0.2 points per game.

Now: Not available.

Barb Wade

Then: A senior guard who averaged a team-high 12.2 points per game, and in the championship game she drove the length of the court, missed a shot from the free-throw line, but grabbed the rebound and rolled in the putback as time expired to give Woodway the championship.

Now: Lives on Mountlake Terrace and works as a recreation manager for Seattle Parks and Recreation, overseeing seven of the city’s 26 community centers.

Bruce Evans

Then: The team’s head coach, he also coached the Woodway softball team to a state title.

Now: Lives in Arizona, where he still plays competitive softball.
