In warm autumn sunshine Towcestrians hosted newly promoted Melbourne in front of an expectant home crowd.

Tows set the tone early with a well worked move, spreading the ball to Liam Wilkinson who crossed the whitewash, Ben Roe added the extras.

In spite of constant pressure Tows failed to capitalize on a chance to increase the lead. Melbourne punished them moment later, their pack levelling the score with a driven maul penalty try. Callum Threlfall was sent to the bin in his efforts too stop it.

Tows replied straight away to take the lead again, Cam Young coming off his wing to stroll under the posts.

With both sides missing penalties and Peter Gowler putting in a huge cover tackle, the score at the break was 14 – 7 to the home side.

With the game going into a strange lull it took a marauding break from Pepe Nanci to drive Tows into the 22. Young again off his wing put in a fly half punt cross field to Callum Jones’ grateful hands who crossed the line.

Young then crossed for his second to put Tows 24-7 in front and bag the bonus point.

The visitors, who always looked dangerous in Tows 22 the replied with a try from centre Jack Pearce, the conversion was missed.

A Gowler charge lead to a successful penalty for Ben Roe and Tows’ best period of the game. Man of the Match and flanker Jack Wilson broke threw several tackles to score.

Melbourne’s hard-working pack managed to win their team a try before one last try from the home side bringing the score to 41 – 17.
