Andrew Mason of
Ravenwood (Brentwood, Tenn.) threatened a national record Friday by piling up seven touchdown receptions in a 61-47 win over Pulaski Academy (Little Rock, Ark.).
Committed to Rice, the 5-foot-11, 160-pound senior caught eight passes for 356 yards and also ran for a score.
The
NFHS record book lists eight as the record for touchdown receptions in a game. At least two players have hit that mark – Earvin Johnson of Cathedral (Los Angeles) in 1998 and Robert Rhodes of Southwest (Fort Worth, Texas) in 2011.

As a junior, Mason caught 35 passes for 739 yards and 11 touchdowns according to statistics submitted to MaxPreps. He committed to Rice in June over offers from at least a dozen FBS and FCS programs.
Mason began his senior season by tallying over 200 all-purpose yards with a pair of scores in Ravenwood's 49-21 win over Centennial (Franklin) back on Aug. 23.
On the losing end of things Friday night, Pulaski Academy continues to make headlines by being involved in games that produce eye-popping statistical totals. Two weeks ago in an 84-68, Bruin quarterback Braden Bratcher accumulated 828 total yards.
Andrew Mason's seven touchdown receptions Friday night were one shy of the national record.
