County School Bus Involved In Head-On Crash With Jeep; 4 Students, Driver Of Other Vehicle Taken To Hospital By EMS; Others Treated

A county school bus was involved in a head-on crash on Friday afternoon. Four students from the bus and the driver of the bus were transported by EMS to a local hospital.

Authorities said they had minor injuries.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office responded to 9100 Village Wood Drive on a reported accident with entrapment involving a Hamilton County school bus. 

Once on scene deputies confirmed that a head on crash had occurred between First Student Transportation Bus #331 and a Jeep Liberty.

Investigation into this crash is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division.

The wreck was in the River Oaks neighborhood with approximately 50 students from Brown Middle and Central High on the bus. 

 

School personnel responded and assisted transportation employees in contacting parents of the students on the bus.  Parents arrived on the scene, and students were released to them.  One student was transferred to another bus and taken home. 

 

Additional students were later brought to the hospital in private vehicles.  According to reports, a total of 13 students on the bus have been treated.  Eight of those treated have been discharged including at least two that were transported by ambulance, officials said at 6:27 p.m. 

 

By 9:51 p.m., all but one of the 13 students treated had been released from the hospital. 

 

Officials said, "Thirteen students on the bus have been treated.  Twelve of those treated have been discharged from the hospital.  The students’ injuries from the accident are reported as minor and they are being released as they receive treatment."
