That’s according to French football expert Julien Laurens.

PSG reportedly rejected Barcelona’s bid for the Brazilian on Tuesday.

The Catalan giants tabled an offer worth €150million [£136m] over the next year.

Barcelona are desperate to re-sign Neymar, but have already forked out £108m for French forward Antoine Griezmann this summer.

The Spanish champions are keen to bring him in as soon as possible, with just under two weeks remaining of the European transfer window.

The window slams shut on September 2, and Barca are optimistic that they will be able to get a deal sorted despite their opening proposal being turned down.

But they might be forced to change their approach and propose a transfer now, rather than try and convince PSG to allow him to leave on loan.

Speaking on ESPN FC, Laurens explained that PSG expected Barca to make a loan bid, and refused the proposal because they still don’t have any interest in facilitating a loan deal.

“For PSG, the offer has come from Barcelona as we reported yesterday, it is what PSG expected and what we all expected,” he said.

“It’s a loan deal - a paying loan, of around €40million [£36m] with an obligation to buy next summer for €150m [£136m].

“In total, it’s €190m [£173m] with the loan and then that permanent deal next summer.

“As we were told yesterday, PSG right now are not interested in any sort of loan - whatever the structure.

“They basically told Barca to go and work that one again.”

Barcelona had originally tabled multiple bids to buy Neymar now, using players to exchange.

They had offered up Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Rakitic, but that offer was refused by PSG.

Since then, Coutinho has left Barca on loan for Bayern Munich, meaning it is unlikely that the Catalan club will be able to find any players to offload.

Ousmane Dembele’s agent confirmed on Tuesday that he would not be allowing the French winger to leave the club.
