Membakut beach to be tourist spot after upgrade
Kota Kinabalu: PASIR Pimping Beach in Membakut is set to become one of the tourism spots in the district once the upgrading work is completed, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Jaujan Sambakong.

Jaujan, who is also Local Government and Housing Minister, said the works will be initiated early next year.

“This would also help enhance the local economy, especially entrepreneurs and small vendors in the area,” he said when answering a question by Membakut Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting, Tuesday.

He said the Beaufort District Council planned to upgrade the stalls at the Pasir Pimping Beach so it would be more organised.

“The design had been completed by the District Council and the proposed additional allocation will be applied to the Federal Housing and Local Government Ministry in 2020.”

Meanwhile, he said his Ministry is also planning to build more public amenities such as general markets and stalls in every district.

“The Ministry is aware of the important role that these facilities play to intensify the economic activities in the respective area.

“Under the 12th Malaysia Plan, my Ministry had proposed for the construction of new general markets, such as in Sipitang, Kota Kinabatangan and a textile market in Kudat,” he said.

Apart from that, the proposal to upgrade existing markets, like in Beaufort and Weston, Melalap and Apin-Apin will also be included.

“My ministry welcomes any suggestion from assemblymen on the construction or upgrading of general markets.

“The construction will take into consideration local elements in their designs so that it will become a new attraction for the area. At the same time, it will also act as an area to commercialise local products,” he said.
