Blumers Lawyers CRC Round 18 Preview

The final round of the regular season takes place this weekend and the minor premiership is up for grabs.

Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Queanbeyan Blues
3pm, Saturday, August 17 at Greenway

Both the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and Queanbeyan Blues will be looking to claim the minor premiership this weekend, with the winner also earning the right to host the major semi final.

After missing out on the minor premiership last weekend, the Tuggeranong Bushrangers will be hoping to secure the shield in front of their own fans.

Last week, the Bushrangers produced arguably their worst performance of the season and will be looking to bounce back quickly with finals only a fortnight away.

The Blues have been in impressive form in recent weeks with four consecutive wins, including wins over top four sides in the Queanbeyan Kangaroos and Goulburn Workers Bulldogs.

Should the Blues fail to win, they could potentially slip to third on the ladder and face a sudden death semi final the following week.

The previous meeting between these two sides was an exciting 34-34 draw, should a draw occur again the Bushrangers would claim the minor premiership for the second consecutive year.

West Belconnen Warriors v Woden Valley Rams
3pm, Saturday, August 17 at Raiders Belconnen

Both the West Belconnen Warriors and Woden Valley Rams will play their final match of the season after the two sides had their slim finals chances come to an end last weekend.

After an inconsistent season, the West Belconnen outfit have found form in recent weeks and have claimed three consecutive wins.

The Woden Valley Rams, on the other hand, will be trying to finish their season on a high by snapping their five match losing streak.

Due to West Belconnen’s superior for and against, it is unlikely that either side will change positions on the ladder. The Warriors currently sit in fifth place while the Rams are in sixth.

Queanbeyan Kangaroos v Belconnen United Sharks
3pm, Saturday, August 17 at Seears Workwear Oval

Fresh after securing a place in this year’s finals series, the Queanbeyan Kangaroos will be looking to maintain their momentum when they host the Belconnen United Sharks.

The Kangaroos produced a complete performance to defeat the top of the table Bushrangers last weekend while the Sharks were also big winners at the expense of the Gungahlin Bulls.

The Sharks will be hoping to claim a win to top off what has been a breakthrough year for the club after they snapped their long standing winless record to claim six victories this season to date.

The last time these sides met, the Kangaroos claimed a 22-21 win at O’Connor.

Goulburn Workers Bulldogs v Gungahlin Bulls
2:15pm, Sunday, August 18 at Workers Arena

The Goulburn Workers Bulldogs host the Gungahlin Bulls on the Sunday and will enter the match knowing if they have a chance of securing a top two finish.

With Goulburn boasting a superior for and against than the Queanbeyan Blues, a Tuggeranong victory in the earlier fixture will provide the Bulldogs with a chance of claiming second place.

Standing in Goulburn’s way are the Gungahlin Bulls who will be looking to finish a difficult season on a high. Gungahlin have proven themselves against the top sides however, with a win against the Queanbeyan Blues earlier in the season.

Should Goulburn fail to win, they could potentially slip to fourth place. If the Blues and Goulburn both win, the Bulldogs will host the minor semi final.
