A high-level delegation from the World Bank paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for National Planning, Hon Richard Maru. The visit today was part of the Energy and Extractives sector high level mission led by Mr Ranjit Lamech, World Bank Director for Infrastructure in the East Asia Region. The aim of the visit was to discuss key priorities of the new government in the energy and extractives sector. This is ongoing support to GoPNG for these particular sectors and the expected outcome is strengthened World Bank-GoPNG engagement. Minister Maru highlighted that the PNG Government’s current immediate priorities include the Momase Highway from Watarais to Madang, the Gulf-Southern Highlands Highway, Economic Coffee Roads for the Highlands Region and projects to improve the profitability of PNG Power and turn PNG Power from a loss-making State Owned Enterprise to a profitable business entity.
