During his time in Pullman playing for the Cougars, Lincoln’s team would go 17-12-1 and he would become the school’s all-time leading rusher with 1,501 yards. He would get in the record books as a punter as well when he averaged 43.9 yards per punt in 1959 and would finish out his career with a 40.3 career punting average.

In 1959, he would rush for 670 yards and catch 11 passes for 182 yards and 5 touchdowns which would line him up to play in four all-star games following the season.

Lincoln was drafted in the fifth round of the 1961 NFL Draft to the Chicago Bears as well as the second round of the 1961 AFL Draft to the San Diego Chargers. He would go on to have lustrous career with the Chargers and become a five-time AFL All-Star as well as being named the AFL-Championship’s Most Outstanding Player and the MVP of the All-Star game in 1963. He would retire following the 1968 season.

Following his football career, Lincoln returned to the Palouse and would be an assistant coach at the University of Idaho in 1970 and Washington State the following year before becoming the executive director of the Washington State alumni association for more than 25 years until 2003.

Lincoln is a member of the 1979 Washington State Hall of Fame class.
