Police Minister Bryan Kramer says the government through the Police Ministry will have discussions with members of the force to look into ways on how it will address the Force’s welfare. Speaking during the Acting Police Commissioners press conference this week at the PoliceHeadquarters in Port Moresby, Minister Kramer says the Force’s welfare includes accommodation of the members of the Force, home ownership scheme and rewards for outgoing officers with clean records. “Going forward, the Prime Minister has tasked me to look into the Force to improve their welfare. I’ve had meetings already with the Minister for Treasury to resolve the outstanding issue in their housing. There’s a number of other initiatives that are underway to high level discussions with Nambawan Super and also other companies and corporations to look at Tax Credit Schemes so we can start rolling out plans and construction on police housing. A home ownership scheme, some discussions are on the table on how we not only provide accommodation but ensure that there’s a program that members of the force can buy their own home,” said Mr Kramer. Minister Kramer also adds that Prime Minister James Marape has also mentioned about rewarding outstanding officers of the Force who have served with high distinction. “Mr Marape has also mentioned discussions on the “Golden Handshake”, similar to other forces around the globe, for instance Singapore where if you have an unblemished track record in the force over certain years, on your retirement, you will be given a financial reward.” He adds all these will only be discussed first with the members of the force. “But all of these can only be done in consultation with the Force, not the government of the day making up its own ideas on how we think the Force should be run. Next week we will be having the Divisional Commanders meeting where all the divisional commanders around the country will report in and I will have the opportunity to explain the reasons behind the decisions that were made, get their insights and views going forward on how they would like to improve the Force and how we can be politicized.” FM100/PNGFacts Next : Appointment Of Tokura Against Spirit Of Bougainville Peace Agreement : Baki Comments are closed.
