The Tuggeranong Bushrangers opened up a three-point lead at the top of the ladder after they edged out Gungahlin and the Yass Magpies upset the Queanbeyan Blues.

Yass Magpies 36 (Tries: J Mecham-Crane, B Davis, W Peace, J McDonald, B Maher, J Smith; Goals: J McDonald 3, S Davis 3) d Queanbeyan Blues 32 (Tries: C Woolford 2, J Stuckey, M Cullen 2, J Hitchins; Goals: M Parsons 4)

The Yass Magpies claimed their second win of the season with a come from behind win against the Queanbeyan Blues.

The Blues started the stronger of the two sides and raced to a 16-4 lead at the break as Charlie Woolford, Josh Stuckey and Michael Cullen all crossed over the line for tries.

Yass levelled the scores with back to back tries immediately after the break before the Magpies and Blues started trading tries.

The Blues hit the front once again as tries to Josh Hitchins and Woolford gave them a 10 point with 15 minutes on the clock.

However, the Magpies showed their determination after Bayley Maher linked up superbly with Jordan Mecham-Crane.

With only minutes left on the clock, Yass hit the front as Jai Smith scored out wide before the kick was successfully converted as Yass claimed a valuable win.

 

Goulburn Workers Bulldogs 34 (Tries: N Cornish 2, M Cornish, T Greenwood, C Hart, D Stephens; Goals: C Hart 5) d Belconnen United Sharks 6 (Try: S Tupoula; Goal: T Aroha-Tuinauvai)

The Goulburn Workers Bulldogs have climbed back up to second place after a comfortable win over the Belconnen United Sharks.

The Bulldogs raced to an early lead as the Nick and Mitch Cornish ran amuck. Nick set up the first try of the afternoon with a short pass to Tyson Greenwood before Mitch Cornish scored the team’s second try.

Nick then scored tries either side of the break as Goulburn held a 30-0 lead.

The Sharks hit back late in the game with Sonny Tupuola gathered a flick pass form Tevita Aroha-Tuinauvai but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs claimed the win.

 

Queanbeyan Kangaroos 38 (Tries: T Williams, J Ayers, D Watt, B Hitchcock, K Pagura, G Afemui; Goals: L Ingram 5) d Woden Valley Rams 16 (Tries: S Henderson, B Robertson, S Kaufusi; Goals: L Withers 2)

The Queanbeyan Kangaroos have moved within a point off the top four after they claimed a big win over the Woden Valley Rams.

The first half was a tight affair as the Kangaroos claimed a 12-0 lead before Woden bounced back to hold a 16-12 lead the break.

The second half was a different story as Tre Williams caused havoc with towering kick’s that the Rams couldn’t diffuse.

The playmaker also scored two tries late in the match to complete the job as the Kangaroos made it five wins from their last six matches.

 

Tuggeranong Bushrangers: 26 (Tries: N Low, M Dragisic, J Pollard, J Baker, C Massen; Goals: J Mitchell 3 d Gungahlin Bulls 24 (Tries: D Howell, D Hately, R Macanawai, M Fellows 2; Goals: B Robinson 1, D Hately 1)

The Tuggeranong Bushrangers held on against a determined Gungahlin Bulls outfit to win 26-24 at Gungahlin Enclosed Oval on Saturday afternoon.

Matthew Fellows scored two late tries to give the Bulls a chance but ultimately the Bushrangers defence held on for a narrow victory.

After not playing a game since 2016, Head Coach for the Bulls David Howell stepped through the Bushrangers defensive line to score a try within the first five minutes.

The Bushrangers scored their first of the match after a line break from winger Jayden Pollard and some solid support play from Tuggeranong set up centre Ngarima Low.

Gungahlin bounced back with a try of their own, with lock Dylan Hately pouncing on the loose ball and pushing his way to the line to score.

A back and forth game saw the Bushrangers take back the lead after an impressive kick back into the middle of the field from centre Michael O’Malveney set up Matthew Dragisic for the try.

It was a close game at halftime with the Tuggeranong Bushrangers leading the Gungahlin Bulls 12-10.

Tuggeranong came out of the sheds with the first try in the second half after Pollard dove into the corner for the score.

The Bushrangers kept pursuing the pressure in the second half after Josh Baker barged his way over the Bulls defensive line to score the try.

With Gungahlin looking for a needed try, a smart play from Howell allowed for winger Ratu Macanawai to sprint down the sideline and barrell over Bushrangers fullback Tristan Eldridge to score.

Tuggeranong added to the scoreboard after a high kick from Josh Mitchell allowed for a terrific catch and quick pass from Jordan Martin to give Connor Massen the try.

With the Bulls desperate to get back into the game late in the second half, Matthew Fellows scored a try of a set play and two minutes later gave his team extra momentum scoring another one of a Howell try assist.

Even with the huge momentum switch the Bushrangers were able to hold out against Gungahlin.
