There may have been less drama in round 19 but the Super League table became even more congested as the form of teams continues to fluctuate.

London Broncos and Hull FC were arguably the biggest winners, while Salford Red Devils and Wigan Warriors strengthened their play-off hopes.

Here, James O’Brien takes a look at some of the winners and losers from the weekend just gone.

Winners

Josh Griffin

The Hull man has been in fine form all year and reached new heights in Saturday’s crushing win over Catalans Dragons in the south of France.

Starting in the back-row before moving back to centre in the second half, Griffin scored two tries in a man of the match performance.

Hull head coach Lee Radford put Griffin’s name forward for Great Britain selection after the game and if he continues to perform like that he surely won’t be far away.

London Broncos

Danny Ward’s side continue to defy expectations and are incredibly only four points off the play-offs after edging Hull KR to make it three straight wins.

London’s priority is clearly securing a second season in Super League and they are giving themselves a great chance of avoiding relegation.

The Broncos are known as a dogged team but there is much more to them than team spirit, with Jordan Abdull and Morgan Smith one of the competition’s most in-form half-back partnerships.

Wigan Warriors

The champions were slow starters following the departure of Shaun Wane, losing eight of their opening 11 games.

But they have slowly found their form under Adrian Lam and secured a third straight win on the road at Huddersfield Giants on Friday night.

All of a sudden Wigan are only outside the play-offs on points difference and it would take a brave person to bet against them finishing in the top five.

Losers

Castleford Tigers

Daryl Powell’s men dropped to seventh after a sixth defeat in eight games and while the Tigers will point to injuries, their fans have come to expect better.

Castleford were among the favourites for the Super League title and enjoyed a strong start to the year but they are now in real danger of missing out on the play-offs.

If they don’t manage to find form in back-to-back home games against London and Leeds Rhinos, they will really be struggling.

Wakefield Trinity

There is no disgrace in losing at Warrington Wolves but Trinity have now lost their last five in Super League amid an injury crisis.

Wakefield have gone from competing for the play-offs to fighting for survival, with bottom side Hull KR only four points adrift.

Chris Chester’s team have a tough run-in and need to start picking up wins soon.

Huddersfield Giants

You would have got long odds on Huddersfield losing all three games and Hull going on a winning run after the Giants’ 55-2 Magic Weekend rout – but that is exactly what has happened.

Simon Woolford has been highly critical of his side in recent weeks and he must find a way of getting his players going again.

The Giants face a trip to Wakefield this weekend, with the loser of that game well and truly in the mire.
