Host of area wrestlers earn All-America honors

Kiley Hubby helped Team Washington to a 2nd-place finish in the women’s freestyle Junior National Duals.

Marysville Pilchuck rising senior Cayden White and Lake Stevens rising senior Kiley Hubby both earned All-America honors as members of the Junior National Duals men’s Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle teams, respectively, while representing Team Washington this week in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

White, wrestling twice at 182 pounds and once at 195 in the Greco-Roman portion of the National Duals, went 1-2 before suffering a hyperextended elbow in a match against California on Wednesday.

He was ruled out of the freestyle competition, which will finish on Saturday.

Washington went on to finish fifth out of 30 teams, with the competitors on the top eight squads recognized as All-Americans.

Hubby represented Team Washington on the women’s freestyle dual team in Tulsa, and went 5-1 at 152 pounds in helping her home state finish second behind Illinois, also earning All-America honors Thursday.

Illinois beat Washington 34-22 in the championship dual, and Hubby’s 6-0 decision over Kimberly Nunez was the final bout of the match.

Here’s how other area wrestlers fared at Cadet and Schoolboy National Duals around the country in the past two weeks, headlined by Team Washington’s All-America performances in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Schoolboy Duals in Indianapolis.

Lake Stevens rising freshman Jake Hubby Jr. also earned All-America honors with at the Cadet National Duals in Spokane, where Team Washington placed fifth in Greco-Roman.
