No More Mess

This Tool Means Never Making a Makeup Mess on the Back of Your Hand Ever Again

The Makeup Hand Palette is a game-changer when it comes to applying foundation and long-wear colors.

We all have different ways of applying makeup. Some of us are committed to tools while others are happy to use our fingers; there are those who are content to use the mirror in a compact and those who have elaborately lit, interactive vanities; sometimes eye makeup goes on before foundation, and sometimes it's the other way around. But of all the many methods makeup lovers practice, there's one I've never been able to get behind: putting blobs of product on the back of my hand. Even if it's convenient, it just seems like such an unnecessary mess, especially if you're using long-wear or waterproof colors that don't come off skin easily.

So when the website RSVP Live shined a spotlight on an invention called the Makeup Hand Palette, which offers the benefits of back-of-hand blobs without the annoying skin stains, first, I got mad that I didn't come up with it, and then, I got my credit card out of my wallet.

The Makeup Hand Palette, by a brand called MakeupBoxLdn, isn't a palette in the way we so often think of them in the context of beauty these days. Instead of being a set of color-filled pans, it's more like the old-school definition of a palette — the slab artists use to hold globules of their chosen paint colors. The clear, acrylic tool slips securely onto the side of your nondominant hand, leaving a flat slab covering the skin you might otherwise pump foundation or other creamy or liquid color cosmetics onto.

"You can now put your foundations, primers, eyeliners and other products straight onto the palette rather than the back of your hand as we know how difficult some long wear products can be to remove," the product description reads. "You can use the hand palette to customise and mix your makeup whether its two different foundations or two different lipsticks to make the perfect colour." And because it's acrylic, you can easily wipe it off with a soft cloth, a little water, maybe a little dish soap — no need to waste a face wipe or makeup remover and leave your skin irritated from elbow grease.

Perhaps you noticed the spelling of customise and colour in that quote. That's because the "Ldn" in MakeupBoxLdn is short for London, where the brand is based. But that doesn't mean you can't get your hands on the Makeup Hand Palette — or rather, get the Makeup Hand Palette on your hand. As long as you're willing to shell out about $19 for shipping in addition to the cost of the tool itself, which is about $15, the brand is happy to send it outside of the U.K. Get yours at makeupbox-ldn.co.uk.
