Ousted prime minister and Ialibu-Pangi MP Peter O'Neill has declined a ministerial portfolio under the government of his successor James Marape. Responding to a question by NBC News, Mr Marape revealed at Government House during the swearing-in of his caretaker Cabinet last week, that Mr O'Neill was approached but turned down the offer. "He was kind enough to decline respectfully. He basically said I don't want people to associate my presence and they might think that I am still there to influence the way cabinet is run. "He's given us the luxury of detaching from him. "He wants us to run a government that we would have the freedom to run it the way we want to and because of that I take my hat off to him. "He had every opportunity to be back in cabinet in various capacities but he respectfully declined so that we can form a new-look government." NBC News/ PNGfacts Comments are closed.
