Jersey Flegg Preview: Raiders v Sea Eagles

The Canberra Raiders’ Jersey Flegg team will be looking to bounce back this weekend as they face the Sea Eagles at HE Laybutt Field on Sunday afternoon.

The team had a narrow loss against the New Zealand Warriors last week going down 40-34. However, the side pulled the game back after trailing by 24 points at one stage of the match.

Raiders coach Ash Barnes said that although it was a tough loss, he was more than impressed with how his side came back into the match late on.

“They turned the possession rate around and when we got the ball they showed we could score some points… That’s what I was most pleased about was that fight to get back into the game,” said Barnes.

A knee injury to star winger Semi Valemi forced Barnes to make a change in the starting line-up, however, said replacement Daine Spencer did well on debut.

"He's a player that plays with a lot of energy," said Barnes. "Particularly at the back end of the second half, he caused the Warriors a bit of trouble and gave our side a bit of energy".

Another surprise inclusion was halfback Toby Westcott making a return from an injury in round one, with Barnes impressed with his effort early on and believes he’ll continue to grow in confidence after his first game back.

The Raiders will hope to get back to winning ways and back into the top eight when they come up against Manly this weekend.

The Sea Eagles head into clash desperate for a win after losing 50-0 against the Dragons.
