Cover Your Floor in Virtual Tile Using Houzz’s Enhanced App
The updated View in My Room 3D tool lets you virtually cover your space with tile to see how new flooring would look
Can’t envision how that tile you’ve been eyeing would look in your kitchen or bathroom? Now you can get a preview by using a new augmented reality (AR) feature in the Houzz app to virtually cover your floor with tile. With the enhanced View in My Room 3D tool for iPhone, iPad and Android devices (see system requirements below), products appear to scale. You can even get a measurement and cost estimate for the amount of tile you’ll need for your space.

Tile is just the latest feature to be rolled out within the Houzz View in My Room 3D tool. There are more than a million home furniture, decor and remodeling products enabled for 3D on Houzz. You can also use the app to try out products on walls and ceilings, or to try out products by virtually placing them in your room.
Read the instructions below or watch the video to see how to use the tool for furniture and decor items.
How to Try Out Furniture or Decor Virtually Using View in My Room 3D
1. Find 3D-enabled products. Follow the same steps outlined above to locate 3D-enabled products — from sofas to coffee tables to rugs and more — in the Houzz Shop. Point the camera at the area of your room where you want the product to appear. The app detects your room’s floor.
2. Rotate and view your product. A blue box will appear in the app as the 3D object loads, and the feature will automatically place the product on the floor of your room, at an appropriate scale. Rotate the object in your room to see how it would look from any angle.
You can layer multiple products to see how one would look on top of another — for example, a coffee table on top of a rug or a lamp on top of a side table.

How to Try Products on Walls and Ceilings Using View in My Room 3D
You can also test out how different pendant lights might look over your kitchen island or how a mirror might fit over your sofa. Watch the video to see how to use the tool to visualize a wall product in your room, or read the instructions below.
1. Find 3D-enabled products. Follow the same steps outlined for tile to find 3D-enabled products for walls and ceilings in the Houzz Shop. Once your camera launches, the app will prompt you to scan the floor for a few seconds.
2. Walk up to the wall. Next, you’ll be instructed to walk up to the wall (as shown in this photo) where you wish to virtually place your product. Put your device flat against the wall with the camera lens facing the wall. The tool will let you know when you can take a step back.

3. Place product in the perfect spot. After stepping back, you’ll see the product appear against your wall. Tap the product one time to make it active, and then you can drag it around the wall with your finger to test how it looks in different areas — for instance, above the sofa versus next to it. The tool shows products true to scale.
4. For ceiling products, scan the ceiling. Follow the above steps through scanning the floor. You won’t need to place your device against the wall — instead, point the camera toward the ceiling. You can use the touch bar on the right side of your screen to adjust the height of the product.
5. Add to shopping cart. When you find a product you’re happy with, simply add it to your cart and check out, or continue shopping. (Products viewed in 3D are automatically kept in a shopping list for easy checkout.)
The View in My Room 3D feature for wall and ceiling products is available on iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and higher, iPad 2017 and any iPad Pro.
The Houzz app is available free in the App Store for iPhone and iPad and in the Google Play Store for Android devices.
