A DOG has died after being poisoned while walking along the Ridgeway in southern Oxfordshire, according to its owner.

Other dog walkers are being warned about the dangers of rat poison after the incident between East Hendred and Wantage on Sunday evening.

A post on the Spotted Didcot Facebook page said: "For anyone with dogs. Please keep your dogs on a lead up the ridgeway.

"My dog has become a victim to rat poison. He is in critical condition after being on the ridgeway for a normal walk."

The owner later confirmed that the dog died last night.

Pet owners have previously been warned about animals being intentionally poisoned.

Last year, toxic antifreeze was blamed for killing cats in a Marcham cul-de-sac.

Three pets from Tower Close were poisoned in the same week, suffering kidney problems that proved to be fatal for two of them.

In 2017, Hart Veterinary Centre in Bicester warned a ‘significant quantity’ of rat poison was poured over a village green in Langford.
