HOLMDEL, NJ — Another improvement for your local community hospital, Bayshore Medical Center in Holmdel.

Last week, Bayshore, which is part of the Hackensack Meridian Health system, unveiled its new MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scanner. This new scanner is a state-of-the-art machine that will greatly improve the patient experience while affording doctors increased imaging capabilities.

This more comfortable unit will greatly increase the quality of scans due to a reduction in nervous movements and patient anxiety. Patients will also see an increase in more “head out scans,” improving the overall experience. The scanner features advanced noise reduction technology, which can reduce the noise level during some types of scans by up to 70%, and a patient audio system, allowing patients to listen to music during their scan.

MRI scanners use powerful magnetic fields and radio waves to generate images of the internal organs. The new scanner, a top-of-the-lineSiemens Magnetom Aera, 1.5 Tesla Scanner, offers an improved patient experience with shorter scan times, a quieter scan, and a more pleasant scanning environment.

“This new scanner is a great example of Bayshore Medical Center’s commitment to providing excellent healthcare to our patients,” said Frank Citara, Chief Healthcare Executive at Bayshore Medical Center. “This $1.3 million investment will allow us to better diagnose and treat our patients while reducing some of the difficulty that can typically accompany an MRI scan.”

The installation of the new scanner took nearly three months. During the transition, the hospital utilized a mobile MRI scanner which avoided an interruption of services to the patients. The mobile scanner was temporarily connected to the main hospital via a vestibule.
