What if aliens aren't as technologically advanced as we think?

I was reading this book by William J. Birnes that I got on Amazon kindle. "The Day After Roswell". Not a very original name for a book about aliens, right?

He was describing his career in the Pentagon's "Foreign Technology" desk. Supposedly his job involved taking artifacts recovered from the Roswell crash, and bringing them to American corporations to be reverse engineered. He would tell them they were from other countries, as a cover story.

Anyway, he describes this microprocessor recovered from the crash as having transistors so small he needed a magnifying glass to see them. As of now, in 2019, human processing technology is already further advanced than that. To see the transistors on a modern microprocessor you would need a very powerful microscope.

So I'm wondering, is it possible the aliens are only slightly more advanced than we are?

Suppose they travel at a speed slower than light, but only slightly slower. A thousand years could pass on Earth, and it would be like a single day for them, because of time dilation.

But the difference in the rate of passage of time would mean their technology isn't advancing, wouldn't it?

They build simple ships like we do,far less complicated than a Jet plane.

Interesting thought - and yes it would.

However, they might out-advance us by hundreds of millennia by the time they set out. We know that at the very least they out-advance us by enough to be capable of interstellar travel.

According to some accounts, alien ships are built amorphously, like we built silicon wafers, except that they can somehow build it up in layers that have the complete unit, and all of it's controls and machinery built in the design. (3d printing , anyone?) At least, that is what I have come to believe.

We are headed that way presently, so it will be interesting. So, anyway on topic, I would think that they had what they needed at the time, electronically, but controlling a technology that we are just now "discovering".

Odd to consider that supposed alien technology, would use recognizable, (by us), microprocessors and transistors, no?

Like you said, if they can interstellar travel physically, they are light years ahead.

Why do we assume advanced civilization automatically want to do what we want to do; explore and see 'whos' out there.

What if as civilizations become advanced, they need less energy, use less technology, and regress from traveling and space exploration?

What if the more advanced we become the less we want to explore, supposing we also advance biologically and have less need for medicine, resources or 'yearning' to explore.

In fact, all signs point to advanced civilizations dont explore. Otherwise, where are they? One could say only primitive intelligent life wants to explore, like we do and romanticize the idea only because we haven't evolved completely and our intuition tells us to 'explore'.

The universe is 13 billion years old. We dont know when we are in the this 13 billion year mark though. Since spacetime is dynamic, we may not be at the tip of the arrow of time, for all we know, the rest of our lives already happened and we simply choose not to explore space as we advance, as probably other civilizations have.

This is all conjecture, since all we know about life is from a sample size of 1. Not the best metric to use for statistics.

There is a much more simple explanation. He made the story up.

Btw Corso is the author and the one making the claims, Birnes is coauthor.

Not odd when the view of "reverse engineerists" (is that a thing?) posit that the only reason we have them at all is because we pulled our model from alien tech...

Maybe: the first transistors were invented, and/or presented in 1947, and the Roswell supposed alien incident was in:... 1947!

Roswell: June 14, 1947

Transistor: Dec. 16, 1947

Maybe it was a just a patched together renegade junker UFO and the alien treasure hunters use whatever working parts they can scavenge(a la "Firefly")to keep the old girl in the air, but unfortunately thier luck ran out and they were brought down because some old scrappy transistor traded from the backwoods of Omicron Seti 3.5 couldn't handle a basic radar transmission.
Point being we have exactly zero idea of who, where, why, when and *what* goes on out there, and as such I'm inclined to go with "as above, so below".
As far as we know it could be a literal galactic, Star Wars cantina out there and only the richest, well resourced alien empires can afford to make fleets of the fancy, full spec platinum series interplanetary space utility vehicles using all the WTF crazy tech and physics breakthroughs(stolen of course!).
The other, less advanced space farers probably make do with barely spaceworthy superceded trade-ins from unscrupulous Vogon used UFO sales showmoons, then during a quick visit to Earth fall afoul of those detestable radars and we end up with the back engineered equivalent of a 1972 Ford Escort.

What if they captured or found it from other civilizations as of lost ancient technology found on their planet or nearby moons and other planets in their own star system?

Then biologically they could be as smart as us traveling with advanced or reproductive craft to explore or to use as military assets?

I think you're probably right if the dwindling desire of our youth to go outside and play as computer games become more advanced is anything to go by...

Wow, I hadn't thought about that before. You're right. Well for those who are on the trip to earth at any rate. The science class back home would still be innovating and invemtimg.

You've made me realise something. Relationships would be impossible for those travelling to earth unless it was a family mission, otherwise you'd go away for a week and you go home and your newborn son is a grandfather...

What if alien life does not exist ?
What if even Drake's equation (which really was not an equation) was factored down now to the point no matter how many planets we think we see in the Goldilock's zone , there was an astounding amount of factors that say no.

What if travel at even near light speed was impossible due to the amount of energy required to move mass at that speed ? And that does not take into effect the actual results of mass at those speeds (would be messy at least)

What if time dilation was added to the Theory of Relativity because Einstein was stuck for 3 years and needed something , anything to plug in . It is said that Tesla disagreed with Einstein , and even Albert himself was not exactly satisfied by it.

What if humans are really smart enough to design and produce their own tech ?

What if the Roswell UFO crash incident was a cover story for a weather balloon ?

Maybe I should write a book.
Science , it is wonderful and boring all at the same time.
Most everything is just a theory . One can let their imagination soar.
Well , except for the very few known Laws

Time dilation doesn't actually work quite like that.

For one, the only ones who would experience time dilation would be the travelers. The rest of their civilization would advance at a rate similar to our own.

Also a 1000 years in a day time dilation ratio is quite large and not likely in 'practical' terms. Even 10 years in a year would be a large amount of dilation.

Would you consider it odd that two completely separate cultures on opposite ends of the world both figured out how to make boats?

Im thinking the craft that crashed at Roswell could of been something similar to our Mars Rover to collect data and images and may have been traveling for 50 years then failed to land properly because they miscalculated our atmosphere.

On a technological level they could be only 40 or 50 years ahead of us.
