QUICK HITS: NEW GAS STATION, PERSIS BIRYANI OPENS, JIMMY JOHN’S CLOSES

A round-up of the latest LoCo headlines.

The Burn has gotten some clues to the identity of the new gas station coming to the Commonwealth Center in Ashburn, directly across Loudoun County Parkway from the Trader Joe’s at One Loudoun.

The new gas station will be owned by Schmitz Services, which currently owns four other gas stations in Northern Virginia, including the Exxon/Circle K just across the street at One Loudoun. We suspect the gas brand will be Exxon as well, but no word on whether the new convenience store will be a Circle K, an A Plus, or something else.

A new Indian biryani restaurant has opened in Ashburn. Persis Biryani Indian Grill is located in the Ashburn Village shopping center. It’s taken over the Indian Taverna spot, which took over the Banjara Indian spot before that.

Biryani is a popular Indian dish featuring rice and combinations of spices, meats, nuts, dried fruits and other ingredients. There are roughly 20 Persis locations around the eastern US and the Midwest.

The Jimmy John’s sandwich shop in the Nokes Plaza center in Sterling has closed. That’s the small strip of stores near the mall with Cafesano, Burger 21 and Nothing Bundt Cakes.

Sources tell us the location has brown paper over its windows. It’s no longer listed on the main Jimmy John’s page, and an employee at another area store confirmed the closure.

Im confused. There is an exxon right there across from one Loudoun. Is this another exxon? Weird. Will they close the existing one?

No. There will just be two gas stations kitty corner (sort of) from each other. Both owned by the same company. More common than you might think.

That was thought, too, Robin. They’re essentially across the street from each other. Seems unnecessary. Poor Brambleton is still waiting for one gas station.

I live in One Loudoun and happily drive an extra 3-4 miles to save $5 buying gas at Sam’s. Gas at that Exxon has consistently been too expensive and throughout other parts of eastern Loudoun. Guess I’ll soon pass two gas stations on my way to Sam’s.

Don’t stretch yourself too much to save $$$. The whole world is going towards electric cars. Gas stations will soon become things of the past ????
