Queen Charts 16 Hits on Hot Rock Songs After ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Home Release

The songs were also aided by buzz leading up to the Academy Awards.

The home media release of biopic Bohemian Rhapsody helps multiple Queen songs re-enter Billboard‘s Hot Rock Songs chart dated March 2.

The film’s home rollout began with its Jan. 22 arrival on digital platforms, followed by DVD and Blu-ray releases Feb. 12.

The onslaught is led by “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which re-enters a new No. 3 peak. (Older songs are able to chart on Hot Rock Songs if they rank in the top 25 and show a meaningful reason for their resurgence.)

“Rhapsody” crowns all Queen tunes with 15,000 downloads sold in the week ending Feb. 21, any 80 percent boost, according to Nielsen Music,. The track rises 3-1 for a second week atop Rock Digital Song Sales, after it ruled the Nov. 17, 2018-dated list, just after the film’s Nov. 2 premiere.

In all, 16 Queen songs reach Hot Rock Songs, with “Another One Bites the Dust” following “Rhapsody” at No. 5 (8,000 sold, up 85 percent).

Queen songs were additionally aided by activity surrounding the 91st Academy Awards (Feb. 24), as the movie was nominated for multiple honors, including best picture. It won for best sound editing, best sound mixing and best film editing, while Rami Malek, in the role of late frontman Freddy Mercury, won best actor. The band also performed with Adam Lambert to open the broadcast.
