Grant Denyer reveals he won't be hosting Dancing With The Stars after being taken to hospital following an accident during a DIY home project

Grant Denyer has revealed he will not be hosting Dancing with the Stars on Monday night after he suffered a bulging disc from a DIY home project on Saturday.

The Gold Logie award winner, who has been anchoring the Channel 10 reboot with Amanda Keller, broke the news on his 2Day FM breakfast radio show on Monday.

'It was a weird little thing. To be honest it looked like I was in a calendar shoot for RM Williams,' Grant, 41, joked to his co-hosts, Ed Kavalee and Ash London during a phone conversation.

'I was down the paddock mate with my Akubra on, my flannos' (flannelette shirt), just slamming away on a star picket with a huge sledgehammer and twang - away it went,' Grant said.

The comedian, Ed attempted to clarify Grant's DIY injury, asking: 'So you were trying to hammer something into the ground with a mallet?'

To which Grant responded: 'Yes. I'm trying to grow some trees and these trees need to be held up by posts.'

Grant went on to reveal he won't be able to host DWTS on Monday evening because he 'can't quite stand or sit for long enough.'

However Grant revealed he will return to co-host the Sydney breakfast radio show in the next 'couple of days' once he has recovered.

Earlier in the phone conversation, Grant's wife Chezzi Denyer said the former Family Feud host was admitted to hospital on Saturday afternoon.

'He's got a bulging disc. It's quite low down so the problem is when he moves from standing to sitting - he can't get comfortable,' she explained.

'In hospital... yeah there were a few flashbacks there! Especially after they gave him Morphine,' she admitted to the radio hosts.

Grant recently opened up about the hallucinations he suffered while recovering from a car accident back in 2008.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia last week Grant said: 'I remember I could never distinguish my dreams from reality - or turns out, my nightmares which I was having every night.'

The new Gumtree Cars ambassador continued: 'Often the hardest part of an injury is the rehabilitation. And the medication that a hospital can put you on, often you're not prepared for the side effects.'

Despite a difficult time in hospital, Grant said he's made a full recovery and feeling better than ever.

'It really was an uncomfortable and scary experience, but thankfully I'm 100 per cent and all good now,' he said.
