Turning Over a New Leaf

Ariana Grande Is Kicking Off Her Sweetener Tour With a New Torso Tattoo

She swears it’s not meant to cover up one of her Pete Davidson-inspired tattoos.

If you're one of the lucky Ariana Grande fans who's attending the first concert of her Sweetener World Tour in Albany, New York, on Monday night, don't be surprised if the pop diva is wearing a sheet of a Tegaderm on her exposed midriff. She spent the wee hours of Sunday morning adding another tattoo to her always-growing collection, this time on part of her tummy and ribcage.

Grande posted a photo of herself lying on her back and playing with ends of her super-long, ombré hair (on which she was practicing the barrette-stacking trend). For the caption, she wrote, "post run thrus, 3 am with @girlknewyork," referring to Brooklyn-based tattoo artist Mira Mariah, who gave Grande a delicate yet sizable branch of leaves on her torso.

The singer also wrote, "not a cover up just evolvin," likely referring to how one of the new leaves — none of which are shaded or colored — encompasses her preexisting "always" tattoo that was reportedly done in ex-fiancé Pete Davidson's handwriting. The word is still visible and fits perfectly within the borders of the leaf. (And as of mid-February, Davidson hadn't covered up his matching "always" tattoo in his back — though we can't say the same for some of his other Grande-inspired ink.)

Mariah shared the same photo on her own Instagram grid, writing, "Middle of the night leaves on the queen. I love you thank you this is all! So! Exciting! Happy tour 🌟💕💎." And this isn't the first time Grande has turned to this artist for a tattoo. She — and her grandmother — got hand tattoos from Mariah in December. And Nylon reports that she's responsible for several of Grande's more than a dozen tattoos.

Needless to say, Instagram commenters are loving the last-minute, pre-tour tattoo. "TATTOOED QUEEN 😍😍😍," one fan wrote, and even Halle Berry chimed in with the cat heart-eyes emoji. Another commenter said, "this tattoo is literally beautiful also see ya in 163 days," perfectly summarizing her fans' enthusiasm for both her new ink and her new tour.
