Four prep events to watch this week as the spring sports season gets underway:
Baseball: Snohomish at Glacier Peak, 4 p.m. Tuesday. The crosstown rivals open their seasons with a non-league matchup. Snohomish finished third in the Wesco 3A North last year, while GP finished fourth in Wesco 4A.
Softball: Snohomish at Monroe, 6 p.m. Wednesday. This non-league showdown pits two teams that reached their respective state championship games last season. Snohomish lost a 13-inning heartbreaker to Bonney Lake in the 3A title game after being on the wrong end of a controversial call in the 12th. Monroe reached the 4A title game, where the Bearcats fell to conference rival Jackson.
Softball: Lake Stevens at Edmonds-Woodway, 4 p.m. Friday. Two of the area’s top teams from last season meet in a non-league clash. Lake Stevens claimed a share of the Wesco 4A crown last year, while E-W won the Wesco 3A South and reached the 3A state quarterfinals.
Boys soccer: Edmonds-Woodway at Snohomish, 7:30 p.m. Friday. This Wesco 3A/2A opener features two of the league’s top teams from last season. Snohomish finished second in the conference, won a district title and reached the 3A state quarterfinals. E-W tied for fourth in Wesco 3A, but had an early exit at district.
