Marco Materazzi believes that his former club Inter should try to win the Europa League, he revealed in an interview with Eurosport.

“In my opinion, yes, at this point the club should try to win the Europa League, which would then open the doors to the Supercoppa, which in turn would allow them to beat the current European champions. ‘The appetite comes with eating’ is a saying in Italy, Inter needs to get used to lifting trophies, something that has not happened for 7 or 8 years.”

He then spoke on whether the lack of trophies among the current squad could be a hindrance.

“When I arrived at Inter I had not won anything, and my other teammates also won nothing just like me, and then some champions arrived and helped us do it, and we thanked them. When you least expect it and you start winning, everything becomes automatic. Inter must find this habit of lifting trophies, whether it is the Coppa Italia, the Europa League, or any other tournament. Winning helps you continue to win.”

He concluded by speaking on players who could potentially make a difference.

“There are many. I continue to insist that Nainggolan, Perisic, and Icardi could make a difference, but also Handanovic, Skriniar, and De Vrij. If you look at any of these names one by one, they are all very good. Now we just have to get the team to play like they did before Christmas. These last few games were unlucky and were not played well, even mentally. If the team get back to doing what they did before December, I think there will be no problem in doing well in Europe.”
