Four students have been selected to represent the Canberra Raiders at the Indigenous Youth Summit held in Melbourne this week.
The students are a part of the NRL School to Work program, a program that utilises the positive profile of the game of Rugby League to support and encourage young Indigenous Australians to complete their schooling and successfully transition into further education or employment. Funded by the Australian Government, the School to Work Program is backed by NRL players, clubs and staff.
Leilani Keen-Church, Maddelyn Savell, Elias Murray and Brett Davis were invited to Raiders HQ to receive their club polo’s from two of the club's Indigenous players Aidan Sezer and Seb Kris, as well as two of their New Zealand Internationals Jordan Rapana and Joseph Tapine.
Elias Murray was excited to be selected for the Youth Summit saying “ I am privileged and honoured to be chosen for this once in a lifetime opportunity, I am going to utilise this opportunity to further develop my leadership skills and to one day give back to my community”.
The Youth Summit is a weeklong leadership camp that will see 68 Indigenous students, across all NRL clubs, participate in Indigenous cultural activities, workshops and events in Melbourne to coincide with the Inaugural Indigenous All Stars V New Zealand Maori game on Friday February 15th at AAMI Park.
