DENR Central Visayas campaigns for #PlasticFreeSinulog
Efforts to protect the environment should continue amid Sinulog celebration, says the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Central Visayas.
In a statement posted on the DENR Central Visayas social media accounts, the agency advised the public to observe eco-friendly practices as well as make a commitment in saving and protecting the environment.
"Amidst various environmental concerns, let us help address it by bringing separate trash bags for biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes, minimizing trash by using re-usable utensils and bringing only sufficient amount of food and drinks placed in reusable or recyclable containers, so that everyone will enjoy a cleaner and greener Sinulog," said DENR Regional Executive Director Gilbert C. Gonzales.
"Scores of the uncollected and unsegregated wastes are left spread on the streets or in open lits, or find their way into and choke our rivers and esteros, posing risks to the health and safety of surrounding communities," he added.
The religious activities during the three-day celebration of the Feast of the Holy Infant Jesus or Sinulog starts at dawn on Friday with a foot procession dubbed as "Walk with Mary." — BAP, GMA News
