6 Things You Missed About the Royal Family's Christmas Card Photo

Christmas came early this year thanks to the preview we got of the Cambridges’ family holiday card. While the palace still has yet to officially release the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's Christmas card on their social media accounts, we commoners got a sneak peek of the card after someone on their Christmas mailing list shared the photo on Twitter. And spoiler alert: it's adorable.
In their most candid and casual Christmas card yet, Will and Kate forgo the traditional studio portraits for a picture of the family posing outdoors with a vintage motorcycle (more on that later). Kate Middleton leans on bike's handles while Prince William holds their youngest, 1-year-old Prince Louis. 6-year-old Prince George and 4-year-old Princess Charlotte sweetly pose next to them in the bike's sidecar.

It Was Sent to Their Friends and Family First
It looks like Will and Kate sent the card out to their friends and family first. Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty posted a picture of the card in a since-deleted tweet with the caption "A Christmas card from our Royal Patron, HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, which I share with all members of the @aircadets. We send HRH and her family all best wishes for Christmas and hope to see her again in 2020." As of December 2016, Kate is patron of the RAF.

There's a Nod to One of Will's Favorite Hobbies
The family is posing with a vintage motorcycle, with baby Louis sweetly sitting in his father's lap on the bike. It's well known that the Duke is a big fan of riding motorbikes — he famously rode one around the night before his wedding to Kate.

Kate's Wearing a Surprisingly Affordable Dress
The Duchess is known for her refined but down-to-earth style, so it's no surprise that the chic dress she's wearing in the picture is actually a steal. The flowing floral dress is from the retailer Boden, a favorite of Kate's.

You Won't See Kate's Family in the Card Anytime Soon
As much as Kate loves her parents, we won't see them in her Christmas card. Traditionally, royal Christmas cards don't feature non-royals, and the Duke and Duchess's cards have never featured Kate's parents. Sorry Michael and Carole!
Their Card Comes Before Meghan and Harry's Card
The The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have yet to release their Christmas Card for 2019, though they are rumored to be shaking it up. Either way, we can't wait to see pictures of little Archie from their first Christmas together!
You Can Send Your Card to the Royal Family
While the list of people who receive Her Majesty's Christmas card is notoriously selective, you can still mail The Queen your card! According to the official royal website, "The Queen is shown almost all of her correspondence on a daily basis by one of her Private Secretaries, and she takes a keen interest in the letters she receives."
