It's is not the first time this year that a photo of Jennifer Lopez has stopped me in my tracks. For most of 2018, J.Lo's been rocking mile-long hair styled into braids, pigtails, and simply straight down her back. But for the World of Dance finale, she and her go-to hairstylist Chris Appleton decided on something even more special: a braided bun that was twisted and wrapped to epic proportions. Just imagine you're idly scrolling through Instagram, yawning at the typical vacation photos, when you come across this knockout. As for me, I took a screenshot, then immediately opened my calendar to search for events where it would be appropriate for me to wear this look. (I have none.)

"It's the FINAL! So today we went for a finale hair look," Appleton wrote on Instagram. "We have been talking about doing this all season." It's clear that the style took a bit of planning. It's got everything: braids, waves, twists, and brushed-out curls — not to mention the height. Judging from the photos, the style looks like it's standing six inches above the crown of J.Lo's head, and Lopez is somehow managing not to topple over. We stan.

Appleton tells Allure that his goal was the "ultimate Glam Barbie vibe." They decided to "really go full out with an elaborate opulent hairdo," and Appleton decided on a bun to so "we can see her beautiful face and create a real complementary style at that followed her cheekbones into the back."

To create the look, Appleton prepped the hair with Color Wow Dream Coat, then pulled the hair back into a ponytail. Then he split the hair into four sections and "shaped them around the back of her head to create a detailed bun effect." He used different styles of rope braids, making sure to pin them in place evenly for a balanced silhouette.

To complete the festive look, she rocked a shimmery-green turtleneck dress and sported her signature golden bronze glow, courtesy of makeup artist Scott Barnes. Simple stud earrings and a nude lip balanced out the hair — nothing to distract from Appleton's masterpiece.

Everything about it is so holiday-ready and perfect for the seasonal party circuit — if your dress code is, as Appleton describes, "glam AF."
