HS rundown: Wes-Del, Delta basketball win again; Emily Weiss sets two records

MUNCIE, Ind. — Four local boys basketball teams and two girls teams won on a busy Saturday, while Yorktown swimmer Emily Weiss set two meet records at Homestead. Several wrestling teams were also in action.

Here are all the scores and stats from the weekend in East Central Indiana:

Boys basketball

Central fell behind early and never recovered in a 63-41 home loss to Guerin Catholic. Tyrke Walker was the lone Bearcat in double figures with 11. Reggie Bass added eight points, Dylan Stafford had seven and Victor Young tallied four points and nine rebounds.

Wes-Del edged Monroe Central 53-52 at home to improve to 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference. Keegan Newsome paced the Warriors with 21 points followed by Caeden McClaughry with 19.

Delta went on the road to defeat Hamilton Heights 85-56. The Eagles continue to roll and are now 6-0 on the season.

Cowan fell 57-28 to Alexandria. Tyler Miller led the Blackhawks with 10 points.

Wapahani suffered a 49-48 loss to Knightstown, its first of the season. Drew Luce poured in 23 points for the Raiders.

Burris lost 62-49 against Lapel. Jackson Adamowicz led the Owls with 13 points.

New Castle fell 73-41 to Brownsburg at the Forum Tip-Off Classic in Southport. Luke Bumbalough had a team-high 23 points.

Blue River pulled away late to defeat Rushville 61-48. Andrew Froedge finished with 19 points, while Brevin Hallatt added 15 and Jackson Thornburgh had 14.

Jay County earned a tight 53-51 win over Fort Recovery. Michael Schlechty hit the game-winning shot with two seconds remaining and finished with a career-best 19 points.

Girls basketball

Central outscored Logansport in the second half on Friday, but the Bearcats fell 71-56. Ayala Wilson hit five 3-pointers and finished with 26 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Da'Koyta Sloss added 11 points and five assists.

New Castle defeated Shelbyville 59-44 on Friday for its third straight win. Cameron Tabor scored 23 points and moved into third place on the program's career scoring list. She also tallied seven assists and five rebounds.

Winchester earned a 64-51 win over Lincoln. Maddie Lawrence led four Golden Falcons in double figures with 19 points, followed by Kira Robinson with 18 points, Shelby Miller with 12 and Becca Chamberlin 10.

Burris fell 66-51 against Daleville. DeKayla Elliott recorded 24 points and 11 rebounds, Emily Adamowicz had 10 points and Ambria Rankin scored eight.

Blackford lost 46-33 in what was a close game with Alexandria. Grace Simmons led the way with 11 points and four rebounds. Jaycie Sones added eight points while Reaghan Hardin had seven to go with seven rebounds. Erin Cagle pulled down a team-high 10 boards.

Wrestling

Monroe Central defeated New Castle and Richmond on its way to a 2-3 record at the New Castle Invite. The Golden Bears fell to Southport, Lawrenceburg and Fishers. Tyler Jones (145 pounds) and Logan Swallow (285) both finished the day a perfect 5-0.

Jay County finished second at the ACAC dual championships. The Patriots went 4-1 with wins against Woodlan, Heritage, Bluffton and South Adams. Their only loss came against champion Adams Central. Mason Winner finished undefeated on the day.

Blackford went 2-3 on the day at the Union City duals with wins over Northeastern and Randolph Southern. The Bruins lost to Union City, Wapahani and Anderson. Ethan Watt led the way with a 4-1 record, finishing in a three-way tie for first at 160 pounds.

Blue River was 0-4 at the Henry County meet with losses to Shenandoah, Knightstown, Tri and Indiana School for the Deaf. Kyle Rice (145 pounds) led the team in wins, going 2-1 against county competition and 3-1 overall. 

Coed swimming

The Yorktown girls finished sixth at the Homestead Invite with 93 points. Emily Weiss set two meet records, winning the 200 individual medley in 2:04.85 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.82. 

Yorktown's boys team placed fifth at the Homestead Invite, scoring 146 points. Nathan Hicks won the 100 breaststroke with a finals time of 59.50.
