Gwynedd Mercy U. Doubles In Size, Purchases 154 Acres From Merck

Breaking: Gwynedd Mercy University has made a major, 154-acre addition to its campus.

Gwynedd Mercy University has made a major, 154-acre addition to its campus, purchasing a vast swath of land from Merck, they announced Thursday.

The purchase will bring the Gwynedd campus' total acreage to 314.

"We are absolutely thrilled that we were able to take advantage of such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase this prime piece of property,” President Deanne D’Emilio said in a statement. "Some of our current facilities are bursting at the seams, and this new space will provide exciting opportunities to expand and enhance the educational programs available to new and continuing GMercyU students."

The property also includes 157,000 square feet on interior space, which the university said they will use as part of their new "state of the art" facilities.

"This expansion will make it possible for our hometown University to bring an even larger group of students from throughout the Commonwealth and around the world to enjoy all that our community has to offer," said Kathleen Hunsicker, Chair of the Lower Gwynedd Township Board of Supervisors.

The price for the sale has not been announced.

Specific plans for the property are not clear, though the university said that "innovative teaching and learning initiatives" would be supported.

Gwynedd Mercy is located on Sumneytown Pike between Routes 309 and 202.
