Floyd’s of Leadville introduced a new Recovery Protein Supplement earlier this summer, and what makes their product the unique and useful is that its formulated to harness hemp’s secret weapon; CBD (Cannabidiol); so that their recovery protein mix helps support healthy recovery and provides pain relief from training and competition.

They utilize CBD varietals with anti-inflammatory properties to take the edge off the pain of post-exercise by reducing inflammation and easing muscle soreness and joint stiffness. Also, its effects on the endocannabinoid system (ECS) promote relaxation and stroke prevention. For those athletes that race competitively, the World Anti-Doping Authority lifted their ban on CBD so that users can reap the CBD benefits without any repercussions and suspensions.

Their protein powder is designed for athletes looking to treat their bodies with the best ingredients and the most functional formula for muscle recovery after a workout. The ingredients contain no additives, no fillers, and are sweetened with natural organic sugar and Stevia. All of their hemp used in the mixture is pesticide-free and non-GMO, so you get all of the goodness of living organisms that haven’t had their genetic material artificially manipulated in a laboratory.

Available in Chocolate and Vanilla, the 454g bags retails for $39.95 and contain ten servings. Each of the servings provides 25mg of CBD, 27 grams of high-quality protein, essential amino acids, 5 grams of sugar and 150 calories.

Impressions

It’s simple to make your protein drink: drop two scoops of the powder into a container and add 5-8 ounces of water or milk (cow, soy, hemp, hazelnut, almond, etc.) and shake well until all the powder is blended. I found that plain water worked the best since a milk product tended to make the mixture a bit too thick for my taste.

The blended shake tasted good and wasn’t too sweet, chalky or overly heavy with a whey aftertaste. The flavors were distinct and satisfying, and you could taste the actual essence of the Cacao and Vanilla beans. Although both the Chocolate and Vanilla tasted fine, my preference was for the Vanilla flavor.

I used Floyd’s of Leadville CBD Recovery Protein drink mix for several months and found it the most effective after any intense ride, the harder, the tougher, more fatiguing and longer the more benefit the product provided. Like any protein powder, it helped with recovery and muscle growth, but the addition of CBD ingredient offered relief, decreased soreness, pain alleviation, and overall relaxation.

Also, it has anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties, all of which help my body and mind chill out and feel a tad better after a good day of hammering. The key word that pops into my head on how I felt after drinking the shake was; soothing!
