A brand-new DH-certified helmet design from Leatt

The inventors of the Leatt-Brace® just unveiled a new design in their helmet range. The helmet to match every challenge, the new 4.0 bicycle helmet is featherlight, ventilated and offers full ASTM DH-certified full-face protection and the innovative 360 ̊  Turbine Technology pods that deform to absorb both vertical and rotational impact forces.

This new DBX 4.0 helmet has been included in this year’s 2018 Interbike Innovation Awards, winning in the category of ‘Mountain Bike Product Innovation’ thanks to its technological features and unique detachable mouthpiece. The Interbike Innovation Awards showcase excellence in product, retail, advocacy and exhibitor booths. Products are considered based on the level of innovation, plus their overall design and construction, ride performance and/or value.

Uphill, downhill, upside down, inside out, electric or manpower. You name it, we got you covered by combining a lightweight, full-face design with outstanding ventilation. It is also fitted with a Fidlock® buckle which we love! We all crash. Sometimes hard, and sometimes even harder! There is a solution to minimize the risk of a head and brain injury, however – go and get the best helmet you can find that reduces both rotation and impact energy to your head and brain!

Thoughts

The DBX 4.0 Full-Face helmet appears to be comfortable and lightweight with excellent coverage and great ventilation. The interior is deeply padded to add to the comfort level, and the Fidlock magnetic closure system for the chin strap is highly functional and easy to use. The innovative 360º Turbine Technology is an incredible trick system and dramatically improves the interior comfort level, and I am glad it’s there for safety and protection during crashes.

Featuring Leatt’s award-winning 360° Turbine Tech, the helmet is lined with turbines which are 360 ̊ moving discs constructed from an energy-absorbing shape and material. This technology has two exclusive advantages, namely the reduction of rotational acceleration to the head and brain and the absorption of energy upon impact at concussion level.

The lightweight design is equipped with 22 vents and a detachable mouthpiece, making it superbly ventilated. The shell is made of a Polymer compound and the liner is an in-molded EPS + EPO impact foam for energy absorption.
