Eagle-Gazette Cross Country Runners of the Year
LANCASTER - The 2018 Eagle-Gazette girls and boys Cross Country runners of the Year of the year awards go to Lancaster’s Elise Johnson and Bloom-Carroll’s Drew Monahan.
Johnson, a senior and a stalwart for the Lady Gales the last four seasons, helped lead Lancaster to the Division I state meet for the first time since 2001. Johnson placed 38th out of 176 runners at the state meet.
She also placed 13th at the Division I regional meet, which would have been good enough to qualify for the state meet as an individual, but the Gales, as a team, qualified for the state meet.
Johnson also helped guide the Gales to the Ohio Capital Conference-Ohio Division championship. She was the OCC-Ohio Division individual champion.
Monahan, a junior, had an outstanding season. He was the Mid-State League-Buckeye Division Runner of the Year and qualified for the Division II state meet as an individual where he placed 58th out of 176 runners.
