Police have said it was "sheer luck" that a drunk driver didn’t seriously injure anybody after he overturned his car near Beckenham Town Centre.

Tobias Coulton, 29, from Bromley, crashed on Copers Cope Road in February 2018 before fleeing the scene.

He has now been disqualified from driving for 20 months and must pay over £1,900 in fines and costs after being more than double over the limit.

"It is sheer luck that nobody was seriously injured," a Bromley police constable said.

The driver tried to walk home without being caught before waiting officers arrested him outside his house.

He told the court he consumed the alcohol on his walk home after the crash.

The Bromley officer added: "I am pleased that the court saw through his account and convicted him and I hope the sentence acts as a deterrent to anybody who still thinks it’s acceptable to get behind the wheel after drinking.

"I would remind the public that if you suspect somebody is driving whilst under the influence to please call 999 and pass on as much information as to their location and details of their vehicle as you have."
