Karey Burke named ABC Entertainment president

Walt Disney’s ABC Entertainment has named Karey Burke as its new president.

Karey Burke becomes the the first African-American to become president of Disney’s ABC Entertainment

Karey has replaced Channing Dungey, who was the first African-American to lead a US broadcast network and stepped down after less than three years on the job.

Prior to this, Burke served as head of original programming at Freeform. She has also been a producer and partner at companies including Dark Toy Entertainment (Go On) and Ashton Kutcher’s Katalyst Entertainment (The Beautiful Life).

Burke will report to Dana Walden, the chairman of Disney TV Studios and ABC Entertainment.

Burke said: “ABC is a beloved brand, and I am honored to continue the legacy left by Channing of excellent storytelling that touches so many people’s hearts. As for Freeform, we are coming off our strongest and most profitable year yet, and I am deeply proud of our bold, inclusive programming and brand.”
