Every week, Music News and Liberty Music look at the best new releases from emerging and self-releasing artists.
Em Rossi - In The Middle After the tragic loss of her father five years ago, L.A. based alt-pop singer-songwriter Em Rossi was ripe with emotion, desperate for an outlet and she’s found it in music. She has a natural affinity for crafting introspective songs, cumbersome with honesty yet still inspire a desire to move and shake that weight from your shoulders. In The Middle is pensive pop at its finest.
CILVR - Bound To Die Inspired by a youth filled with the grandiose dramatisation of classical music, Stockholm-based, independent artist CILVR emphatically returns with her distinct aperture on electro-pop that carries the same level cinematic gravitas, but in a completely different direction. With an ethereal voice, you might assume would be more suited to the genres of her youth, yet it slowly introduces you to Bound To Die, a glossy electro-pop track filled led by sharp drums and guitar-meets-synth melody for an irrefutable groove.
Clinic Blonde - Fabled As an 80s inspired band, you might think that Copenhagen-based four-piece Clinic Blonde might conjure imagery of pastel suits, and dated synths but its anything but. Fabled c arries all the hallmarks of the ballads we know and love from the era, yet brought into the modern day by cutting-edge indie. While the lyrical narrative addresses the anxieties of modern love, its brought into balance the uplifting melodies and upbeat rhythms.
Danny George - Say Something ft. Darren Morgan Modern music is a very wide road nowadays, with genres getting pushed and pulled in different directions. Someone using that to his advantage is UK producer Danny George who joins forces with Irish soul singer-songwriter Darren Morgan to create a spectacular electro-soul crossover ripe with boundary-pushing and forward-thinking sounds that set it ahead of the curve.
Royal Canoe - Peep This Whetting appetites once again for their forthcoming album in January, Canadian psych-pop six-piece Royal Canoe lay down a new groove for us that leans away from the R&B flavours found in the previous single RAYZ, and sees them return to the sound they’ve crafting for years. Peep This i s a psych-pop triumph filled with a nostalgic groove that’s hard to deny.
The Desert - Distract Me With a sound described as a mix of Portishead and Massive Attack, you know you’re in for a treat before you listen to The Desert as that is undoubtedly high praise, yet entirely accurate. The chilling female vocals of Distract Me, t ake you away from your day lead you on a stark and immersive journey through organic and synthetic sounds for a slow-burning, yet perfectly executed musical evolution.
Vineyard Cries - Holes Self-described in a previous track as “the son of Liam Gallagher and Erykah Badu”, London-based wordsmith Vineyard Cries applies his distinct biting, syllable-blending flow to a production that sits between classic old-school hip-hop and Britpop, spinning a swaggering tale of his harrowing life thus far, epitomised by the lyric “Don’t you tell me that the sky is the limit because I came here through a hole in the ground.”.
