GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The City of Grand Rapids is asking the community to help select the new look and design of entry signs at City-owned parks.

Five designs are competing in the open voting finalist competition, which begins today and ends Dec. 7. Community members may vote online HERE, by phone at 616.456.3696, or in person at the Parks and Recreation office, 201 Market Ave. SW. The competition allows for only one vote per person.

The winning submission will be used at all 75 parks throughout Grand Rapids. The winner will be awarded up to $1,000 to collaborate with a licensed design professional to produce final drawings.

The Parks and Recreation Department launched the competition earlier this fall. During the open call for entries, community members submitted more than 150 design concepts. The resident-led Parks and Recreation Advisory Board reviewed those concepts and then narrowed the field to five finalists. The winning design will be determined by the public vote.

“The creativity and innovation of the designs from our residents was incredible to see,” Parks and Recreation Director David Marquardt said. “We’re excited to unveil the finalists and we look forward to improving our parks with a community-led design.”
