Michael Fracassa takes the oath of office to represent the 2nd Ward on the Lancaster city council on Dec. 22, 2015, at Olivedale Senior Center in Lancaster.

LANCASTER — After nearly five years of representing Lancaster's 2nd Ward on city council, Mike Fracassa is resigning from his seat to pursue his career out of state.

Fracassa currently works in finance at the Ohio Treasurer of State's office but recently accepted a new position at the Indiana Treasurer of State's office. His last day as a council member is Nov. 30.

"It's a good opportunity for me and my family," Fracassa said Monday, adding that the position will also bring them closer to relatives. "I've enjoyed serving on council and tried to do the best I could to bring economic development to Lancaster."

Fracassa serves on the city's economic development committee and said he's most proud of the work he's done there.

He informed city officials of his decision late last week via email saying, "It has been a great honor the last 5 years to serve the citizens of Lancaster and represent the 2nd ward. Lancaster is a great city and continues to be a great place to raise a family, and I will certainly miss it."

The second ward comprises the northern portion of the city, starting from east of North Memorial Drive to the northern city limits. While the ward has areas that are commercial, it is also highly residential and includes the River Valley Highlands neighborhood, among others.

He also notified Fairfield County Republican Chairman Jeff Fix of his decision so the party can begin the process of filling his seat. It will be up to the party's central 22 committee members representing Lancaster to select his replacement to fill rest of his term through 2019.

The Republican Central Committee is familiar with the process, having done it twice in 2017 to replace council at-large and the council president seats.

"We want someone who will be looking to work collaboratively with the rest of the council and the Lancaster administration," Fix said. "We're looking for someone who is smart, driven and someone with a passion to serve."
