The undefeated Lake Stevens High School football team is seeded third in the Class 4A state-tournament bracket announced Sunday by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
The Vikings (10-0) play host to 14th-seeded Curtis (7-3) at 7 p.m. Friday. The Lake Stevens-Curtis winner plays either sixth-seeded Graham-Kapowsin (9-1) or No. 11 Mead (7-3) in the state quarterfinals.
Union (10-0) is the top seed in Class 4A and Woodinville is No. 2.
In the Class 3A bracket, Snohomish (8-2) is seeded 13th. The Panthers play at No. 4 Bellevue (10-0) at 7 p.m. Friday. The winner faces No. 5 Lakes (8-2) or No. 12 Yelm (7-3) in the state quarterfinals.
Eastside Catholic (8-1) is the top seed in 3A.
This is the first year the WIAA has used committees to seed the 16-team brackets.
The three seeding committees each consisted of 10 members, primarily current or retired WIAA football coaches. The committees covered two classifications apiece, with one committee seeding the 3A/4A classifications, one seeding the 1A/2A classifications and another seeding the 2B classification and beginning work on the 1B bracket.
The 1B bracket will be announced Nov. 11.
In creating the seedings, the committees took into consideration regular-season performances as well as travel implications. They also tried to avoid league opponents facing off in the first round.
“I’m proud of the work they’ve put in to create what we think are fair brackets that hopefully will result in competitive and exciting tournaments,” WIAA Executive Board Member and Committee Chair Greg Whitmore said in a statement.
