Sligo's Red Og Murphy.

Sligo's Red Óg Murphy is set to join the recent exodus of rising GAA stars to the AFL.

According to AFL.com, Murphy is expected to take up the offer of a two-year international rookie contract with North Melbourne after he lines out for Curry in Sunday's county IFC final replay against Shamrock Gaels. Murphy is one of the Yeats County's brightest prospects and memorably scored 11 points against Derry in last year's All-Ireland MFC quarter-final.

He spent a week on trial with the Kangaroos along with Derry's Oisin McWilliams in August and is set to follow in the footsteps of James Madden (Dublin), Mark Keane (Cork), Stefan Okunbor (Kerry), Anton Tohill (Derry) and Callum Brown (Derry), who have signed for Aussie Rules clubs in recent weeks.

Murphy's imminent departure will bring the number of Irish in the AFL next season to a record 14.
