Prosecutors in Ohio say a driver accused of causing a crash that killed four people, including a young boy, has four prior convictions for operating a vehicle under the influence.

Donte Conard appeared Monday in an Ashtabula courtroom. The 48-year-old Ashtabula man is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. A message seeking comment was left for his attorney.

The State Highway Patrol says it appears Conard was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he ran a stop sign and hit a car Friday night in the city roughly 60 miles (97 kilometers) northeast of Cleveland.

The crash killed a 1-year-old boy; his parents, 18-year-old Giovanni Miller and 19-year-old Anastasia Smith; and 47-year-old Michelle Hommes; all of Ashtabula.

Conard suffered minor injuries. His bond was set at $1 million.
