Go Figure! Postseason bringing out the best in high school athletes

With the regular season over, high school athletes are really picking up their games.

Need proof? Just check out these numbers from last week's high school sporting events. Here is this week's Go Figure!

148: Number of strokes recorded by Ashland's Anna Watson during the Division I state golf tournament last week. Watson shot a 2-over 72 on Friday, followed by a 76 on Saturday to lead the Arrows to a fourth-place total of 642.

4: Number of carries for Lexington's Alex Green during the Minutemen's 42-16 win over Madison. Green may have only totted the ball four times, but he went off for 156 yards and two touchdowns of 41 and 65 yards in the victory. With a win in Week 10, Lexington is likely to clinch a playoff spot after starting the season 0-3.

15:21.8: Time it took Shelby's Caleb Brown to cross the finish line during the Division II District Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Galion. Brown took the individual championship while leading his team to a district title as well. The Whippets are ranked No. 1 in the state in Division II as a team.

2: Number of touchdowns runs for more than 60 yards for Madison's Miles Bond during the Rams' loss to Lexington on Friday night. Bone rumbled for two touchdowns of 80 and 60 yards in the second half to help the Rams avoid the shutout.

18:40.1: Time it took Lexington's Joanna Halfhill to cross the finish line during the Division II District Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Galion. Halfhill was the individual champion on the day while leading her team to the district title. Lady Lex is the No. 1 team in Division II and looking for back-to-back state championships.

189: Number of passing yards for Mansfield Senior quarterback Cameron Todd, who completed 11 of 18 passes and three of those went for touchdowns. He also ran the ball seven times for 49 yards and a score as he found his signature game. The junior has another full season to really make his mark on the program.

37-1: The combined score in the Division II girls soccer sectional final games last week. The Madison Lady Rams won 10-0, the Lexington Lady Lex won 10-1, the Clear Fork Lady Colts won 10-0 and the Ontario Lady Warriors won 7-0, all capturing sectional titles.

24: Number of yards Clear Fork's Gabe Blauser's kick traveled before splitting the uprights on Friday night, giving the Colts the 16-14 lead over Pleasant with three minutes left in the fourth quarter. Blauser pulled an extra-point attempt during the Colt's previous touchdown that would have tied the game, but Blauser redeemed himself with the game-winning field goal. With the win, the Colts clinched a home playoff game and moved to No. 1 in Division IV Region 14.

5: Number of goals scored by Clear Fork's Kaylin Helinski during the Lady Colts' 10-0 win over Sandusky in the sectional title game last week. She also scored five goals in the Lady Colts' sectional semifinal win earlier last week giving her 10 goals in two games. The Lady Colts take on Ontario in the district semifinal at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Madison High School.

6: Number of touchdowns scored by Galion's Elias Middleton on Friday night during the Tigers' 45-21 victory over Ontario. Middleton completed 10 passes for 169 yards and carried the ball 21 times for 176 yards and scored a combined six touchdowns.

2: Number of Lexington girls soccer players who recorded hat tricks during Lady Lex's 10-1 win over Perkins in the sectional final last week. Lacee Bethea and Gabby Stover each had three goals in the win while Alexi Mampieri, Abby Eifrid, Raegan Huvler and Danielle Gottschling had one goal apiece in the victory. Stover also had two assists in the victory.

Clear Fork's Brennan South looks for an opening to make a pass while playing against Marion Pleasant on Friday.

232: Number of combined offensive yardage for Crestview's Brevin King on Friday night. King ran for 140 yards and a touchdown while throwing for 92 yards and two touchdowns as the Cougars defeated South Central 21-12.

4: Number of goals scored by Ontario's Bria Meisse in the Lady Warriors' 7-0 win over Norwalk in the Division II sectional title game. Meisse also scored three goals in Ontario's sectional semifinal win giving her seven for the week.

2: Number of passing touchdowns thrown by Lucas' Logan Niswander on Saturday afternoon during the Cubs 62-6 win over River. Niswander had two interceptions on defense and made eight of nine extra point kicks. He also ran for a touchdown in the victory.

3: Number of goals scored by Madison's Kalie Blaising during the Lady Rams 10-0 win over Tiffin Columbian in the Division II sectional title match. Blaising scored all three goals in the first half after only scoring nine goals all season. Her 12 goals are now second most on the team.

5: Number of goals scored by Mansfield Christian's Audrey Martin during the Lady Flames' 8-0 Division III sectional championship girls soccer match against Cory Rawson. The Lady Flames move on to the district semifinal at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Findlay High School, taking on Liberty Benton.

2: Number of Crestview Lady Cougars who scored two goals in their 5-0 win over Bluffton on Saturday in the Division III girls soccer sectional title game. Emily Fry and Kathleen Leeper had a pair of goals apiece in the victory which sends Crestview to the district semifinal match at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Findlay High School taking on Riverdale.

4th: The place the Madison Lady Rams cross country team finished in the Division II district cross country race on Saturday in Findlay. Adrianna Russell finished in fourth place in the race with a 20:00.98 while Emily Atwell took seventh overall with a 20:25.14. The Lady Rams move on as a team to the regional race this weekend.
