Bay Area: Calls for Mass Hotel Pickets and to Block Scabs

A call for people in the bay area to join in support of the massive strike by hotel workers. It calls for people to join the pickets and block scabs.

At 7:45 a.m. this Sunday morning, 10/21/18, a long distance charter bus delivered scabs to the Marriott at Sutter & Powell, SF, by dropping them off on Bush Street at Powell, so they could easily walk into the side entrance on Powell, with no pickets to face. That must change now. We need mass picket lines, increased by all friends of labor, at all entrances to stop scabs, supplies and services deliveries to struck hotels.

Everyone needs to be taught PICKETLINES MEAN DON’T CROSS. When we see the hotel patrons crossing the line, we tell them SHAME ON YOU FOR CROSSING A PICKETLINE! YOU ARE A DISGRACE TO HUMANITY! There are only 9 struck hotels in San Francisco, leaving hundreds of hotels available. Right across the street from the Marriott at Sutter and Powell is the swanky Sir Francis Drake at Powell and Sutter and the expensive Grand Hyatt at Stockton and Sutter, with lots of small hotels everywhere in the Union Square area, and some larger ones as well.

The struck hotels are mostly empty, but they need to be ENTIRELY EMPTY which can only occur with mass picket lines. The desperately poor striking hotel workers cannot provide enough people for 24/7 mass picket lines. Just take 15 minutes out of your day or your week to go to any one of the following struck hotels to help with picketing. Bring whatever noise makers or musical instruments you have to keep the hotel patrons awake as the primary reason to rent a hotel room is to have a quiet place to sleep.

The struck hotels are:

Courtyard Marriott (299 2d Street, near baseball stadium)
Palace Hotel by Marriott (Market and New Montgomery)
San Francisco Marriott Marquis (4th and Mission Streets)
San Francisco Marriott Union Square (Sutter at Powell)
St. Regis Hotel (125 Third Street)
W San Francisco by Marriott (181 Third Street)
Westin St Francis at Union Square (Powell and Geary)
Hyatt Fisherman’s Wharf (555 North Point)
Le Meridien (333 Battery)
