Agricultural Society hosts Fall Family Festival
FREMONT - While fair season may seem long gone, families were still embracing the grounds with camping, games and more at the Sandusky County Fair and Agricultural Society’s first Fall Family Fest this past weekend.
“After fair, some people think it’s the end,” said Danyelle Lantz, an Agricultural Society director . “Kids still want to get together, but 4-H doesn’t start until the next spring. So the idea was to get fair families and kids back together after things have calmed down.”
The Sandusky County Junior Fair teamed up with Sandusky County’s 4-H to put on a weekend full of fun for families, with a square on Friday, crafts on Saturday morning, dodgeball and cornhole tournaments, a chili cook-off and finishing the event with a bonfire and music.
Kids got the chance to decorate pumpkins and don their best Halloween costumes for a shot at a trophy.
Gwen Soule, director of the county 4-H program, said they also held an open house and achievement recognition on Saturday morning as part of Fall Family Fest.
“This is the first year and hopefully it’s something we’ll continue to do,” Soule said.
Most of the activities were led by the Junior Fair members themselves.
Lantz estimated that there probably more than 60 campers at the event, mostly fair families, but others also, as all were welcome.
“We just tried to make a fun weekend for the kids,” she said. “Being the first year, we didn’t know what to expect. We’ll build from there and hopefully make it an annual thing.”
