Martin heads Ramirez, Bezzecchi in Moto3™ FP3

Championship leader fastest ahead of qualifying in the lightweight class

Jorge Martin (Del Conca Gresini Moto3) topped the timesheets in FP3 at the Motul Grand Prix of Japan to lead the Moto3™ field into qualifying. The Spaniard is the only rider to set a lap time under the 1:57 bracket this weekend after a 1:56.911 was enough to better Marcos Ramirez (Bester Capital Dubai) by 0.126, with title rival Marco Bezzecchi (Redox PruestelGP) third – 0.355 back.

The land of the rising sun lived up to his name as bright blue skies greeted the lightweight class grid for their final Free Practice session of the weekend. Martin went quickest with just under five minutes to go to oust Bezzecchi from the top, with Ramirez putting in a late personal best lap to jump up to second. Fourth was fellow Bester Capital Dubai rider Jaume Masia, 0.377 behind compatriot Martin, with Ayumu Sasaki (Petronas Sprinta Racing) completing the top five at the Twin Ring Motegi – 0.466 behind Martin.

Niccolo Antonelli (SIC58 Squadra Corse) crashed at Turn 10 and was taken to the medical centre for a checkup, with Tony Arbolino (Marinelli Snipers Team) crashing late in the session – rider ok.

Qualifying is next for the Moto3™ class – tune in at 12:35 local time (GMT +9) to see who can grab pole.
