South Jersey high school football scores for Week 7

South Jersey Gridiron Gang
St. Augustine’s Justin Shorter runs for a gain against visiting Holy Spirit. The Hermits defeated the Spartans, 27-14 on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Here's how your favorite South Jersey high school football teams fared in Week 7:

Bishop Eustace 20, Pemberton 6

The Crusaders found the win column for the first time this season as Bryan Hartman rushed for a pair of second-half scores for the victors.

Craig Yates had a touchdown on the ground for Bishop Eustace as well.

Haddon Twp. 30, Clayton 14

Shawn Donlon starred on both sides of the ball Saturday for the Hawks, rushing for 69 yards and two scores while also recording a pair of interceptions on defense.

Nate Cossaboon added 82 rushing yards and two touchdowns for Haddon Township.

Burlington Twp. 14, Highland 13

With two quick-strike touchdowns in the first half and a stingy defense throughout, Burlington Township remained undefeated on Saturday.

The fifth-ranked Falcons edged No. 7 Highland in a matchup of unbeatens and a crucial tilt for the WJFL Liberty Division. Township (7-0, 4-0) got a 78-yard touchdown pass from Danny Grozozski to Justin Johnson on the second snap of play and then a 60-yard run for six from Rodney Vines late in the first half.

The Tartans (6-1, 3-1) got one field goal from Brian Cooey and a 10-yard touchdown run from Kasim Randall-Dale in the first half. Cooey added another kick in the fourth quarter. Highland star Johnny Martin III finished with 171 yards on 33 carries, but the Tartans only found the end zone once in three trips inside the 20.

Johnson's 139 yards on four catches paced the Falcons as well as Omar Rogers’ stellar play at safety for a team that relied on its defense to finish out the effort.

Vineland 31, Washington Twp. 7: Junior quarterback Ryan Shelton rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns and flipped a short pass for a third score as the Fighting Clan all but secured a playoff berth with a 31-7 victory over Washington Township at Gittone Stadium.

However, Vineland will likely be without Shelton for the remainder of the season after it appeared he broke his right collarbone on a play in the fourth quarter.

Nahzir Broome ripped off a 63-yard touchdown run and Anthony Toney caught a 3-yard touchdown pass for Vineland, which improved to 3-5.

Willingboro 29, Woodrow Wilson 14

The Chimeras intercepted Tigers quarterback Nick Kargman four times en route to the victory.

Penns Grove 42, Glassboro 6

Nasir Robinson ran for 184 yards and had three scores to power the Red Devils to victory. Torvon Ransome eclipsed the century mark receiving and had a TD as well.

Woodbury 41, Lindenwold 0

Andre Parker connected with Jay’Shawn Harvey for a pair of touchdowns and he also ran for two scores in the Thundering Herd’s win. Devin Love contributed a pick-6 and George Smith’s rushing score rounded out the scoring.

Rancocas Valley 19, Lenape 16

Quarterback Bryce Mangene threw three touchdown passes, two to Cerrome Hill and a Hail Mary to Jahmier Washington to end the first half, as the Red Devils downed Lenape in a rematch of last year’s South Jersey Group 5 final.

Maple Shade 42, Riverside 12

Dominic Acevedo found the end zone three times and Matthew Klemm chipped in a receiving score and a 73-yard fumble recovery touchdown for the Wildcats.

Delsea 38, Cedar Creek 16

Delsea High School football's renaissance campaign took another step in the victorious direction here on Friday night.

The 12th-ranked Crusaders used 27 carries for 226 rush yards and four touchdowns from senior star back Aidan Borguet to pull away from Cedar Creek in a West Jersey Football League Constitution Division contest, 38-16.

Delsea (4-3, 4-1) faced a 10-8 deficit late in the first quarter after two special teams mistakes led to Pirates' points.

Coach Sal Marchese's bunch went to what works on the next drive. Borguet carried seven times on an 11-play, 65-yard possession that ended when the Harvard commit punched it in from six yards out.

Borguet scored again on the next drive on an 11-yard jaunt to make it 22-10 at halftime. He went in twice more in the second half.

Eastern 13, Hammonton 12

With its high-flying offense grounded for most of the game, the Eastern High School football team proved it could win in a different way.

Despite a penalty-plagued, mistake-marred four quarters, the Vikings rode a strong defensive effort, got a late score and held off a late charge by Hammonton for a 13-12 road win Friday night.

Eastern quarterback Andrew Heck flipped a 3-yard pass to tight end Michael Wall for the decisive score with 7 minutes, 14 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Vikings a 13-12 lead.

West Deptford 28, Deptford 21

Kenny Lim didn't get the ball much out of the backfield Friday night. But when he did, it mattered.

Lim, West Deptford's durable senior running back only had four carries in the first 36 minutes and eight seconds of the game against Deptford, but two of them were for touchdowns of 21 and 55 yards, respectively, as the Eagles recovered from a sluggish start to pull past and eventually hold off the host Spartans, 28-21, in a West Jersey Football League Colonial Division game.

Lim, who finished with 121 yards on nine carries, scored both of his touchdowns in the second half, allowing the Eagles, ranked 10th in the Courier-Post's Mean 15, the points necessary to hold off the Spartans.

“It all comes down to the offensive line,” Lim said. “They did their job and opened things up for us.”

West Deptford goes to 5-2 on the season and should solidify its position as the second-ranked team in the South Jersey Group 2 power point rankings.

Deptford fell to 6-2 with both losses coming in the Colonial Division. The Spartans pulled to within 28-21 as Tyree Brown scored on a 1-yard run with 4:29 left to play.

Williamstown 48, Shawnee 14

Wade Inge won’t forget his first half Friday night anytime soon.

The Williamstown High School senior tailback piled up 184 of his career-high 205 yards in the opening two quarters – as well as three touchdowns – as the Braves kept their undefeated season intact with a 48-14 home win over Shawnee.

“It felt wonderful,” said Inge, who scored on runs of 30, 63 and 14 yards. “I was following behind what we like to say is some of the best linemen in South Jersey, so following behind them, they lead you through a hole, and once you get into open space, it’s your time.”

Quarterback JC Collins added a TD run of his own, plus scoring strikes to Brandon Perkins (28 yards) and Damonte Campbell (37 yards) in the second half. Chris Forman closed the scoring with an 11-yard run in the final two minutes of the game.

Millville 50, Atlantic City 0: The No. 15 Thunderbolts (5-3) easily won their fifth straight game, jumping out to a 28-0 lead by halftime. Tommy Watson started the scoring on a 3-yard TD run, followed by a pair of Eddie Jamison TD passes. Tex Thompson's 22-yard TD run gave Millville its big halftime lead.

St. Joseph 33, Timber Creek 14: After a 51-0 drubbing at the hands of West Deptford last week, the 14th-ranked Wildcats rebounded in strong fashion. St. Joe's took a 20-0 lead into halftime on the strength of an 8-yard TD pass from Jayden Shertel to Chase Lomas, a 3-yard TD run by Ahmad Ross and a 47-yard scoring strike from Shertel to Nate Johnson.

Fred Jefferson scored on a 1-yard plunge for Timber Creek to break the shutout late in the third quarter.

The Chargers got to within 26-14 with 8:53 left to play on a 33-yard TD pass from Jefferson to Justin Houston.

St. Augustine 28, Cherokee 10: Chris Allen threw for a pair of first-half touchdowns as the No. 3 Hermits 6-2 pulled away from the Chiefs. Isaiah Raikes extended the lead to 21-7 on a third-quarter touchdown run, and Justin Brown's 1-yard scoring run with just over five minutes left to pay finished the scoring.

Allen hit Nasir Hill on a fourth-down play for a 33-yard TD strike with 9:06 left in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead.

Camden 56, Camden Catholic 0: The fourth-ranked Panthers trounced the Irish to improve to 6-1 as they presented coach Dwayne Savage with his 50th career coaching victory. Monte Williams threw for three touchdowns in the first quarter alone and finished with four in the game.

Holy Spirit 28, Kingsway 7: Elijah Gray accounted for four touchdowns, running for three and tossing a TD pass to Eric Roman late in the game as the No. 6 Spartans rolled.

Egg Harbor Twp. 40, Bridgeton 6: Sal Paschall had a 53-yard run to set up his own touchdown and a 54-yard burst to set up another as the Eagles rolled. Devon Parker had a 37-yard TD run and 79-yard kickoff return for another score in the win.

Seneca 28, Triton 21: Malin Jasinski connected with Kaden Hastie for a pair of touchdowns, and Travis Laster's TD run put the Golden Eagles up 21-14 in the second half and they held off the Mustangs.

Haddonfield 42, Collingswood 0: Jay Foley connected with his brother John on a 60-yard TD pass to open the scoring and the top-ranked Bulldogs continued to roll, improving to 7-0. Foley threw for another score and Chris Brown and Tommy Batson each had a pair of scoring runs in the win.

Gateway 48, Haddon Heights 6: The Gators led 36-0 at the half and improved to 6-0 with a decisive win over the Garnets. Matt Goetz threw for three touchdowns and Derrick Parker had a pair of short TD runs in the win.

Buena 19, Pleasantville 13: Jaden Roberts scored on a 29-yard scoring run early in the fourth quarter to put the Chiefs up 19-6 and they hung on to improve to 7-0. Quarterback Sahmir Jones scored on a 20-yard scramble with 7:18 left to play to pull the Greyhounds (5-2) to within six.

Salem 44, Pennsville 3: The Rams exploded for 23 points in the second quarter to open a 30-0 halftime lead as they picked up their first win in the Diamond Division. Quarterback Jamael Bundy had a pair of first-half touchdown passes and closed the scoring with a pair of long second-half touchdown runs. He completed 8-of-15 pass attempts for 115 yards and rushed for 160 yards on just five carries.

Woodstown 21, Schalick 20: Marqui Walls scored on a 15-yard run in the third quarter and Conner Batten added the decisive PAT kick to deliver the win for the Wolverines. Schalick had taken a 20-14 lead on Patrick McCann's 1-yard scoring run earlier in the quarter, but the PAT kick was blocked.

Jyhiem Palmer scored on a pair of short TD runs in the first half for Schalick.

Florence 28, Burlington City 18: After spotting the Blue Devils a 12-7 lead, the Flashes erupted for 21 points to close the first half to take command. Joe LeVach scored on runs of 45 and 1 yards, and Osmar Quinones caught a 15-yard scoring pass from Shane Fajgier.

Oakcrest 20, Ocean City 14: Keevon Berry scored on an 8-yard run on Oakcrest’s first possession of overtime to clinch a victory in an Independence Division contest.
