Happy Birthday to Me Blu-ray

Mill Creek Entertainment has confirmed that it is preparing a new Blu-ray release of J. Lee Thompson's cult slasher Happy Birthday to Me (1981), starring Melissa Sue Anderson, Glenn Ford, Lawrence Dane, Sharon Acker, and Frances Hyland. The release, which will arrive with a special Retro VHS Packaging, will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart on October 30.
Synopsis: Welcome to upscale Crawford Academy, where everyone - especially new student Ginny (Melissa Sue Anderson of Little House On The Prairie) - wants to be part of the school's most popular clique. But now somebody has begun butchering the group's members. Could a deadly accident from Ginny's past be connected to the brutal killings? And as her 18th birthday approaches, will Ginny be the guest of honor at the most horrific party of all?
I went to Walmart a few days ago and they had a bunch of blurays with the retro VHS slipcovers. I already owned all the ones I would want but I was very close to double dipping on a few. Ill have to pick this one up!
Even though I have this as part of a double feature with When a Stranger Calls (1979), I still gotta get this on day one!! That retro VHS packaging looks sick!!
I hate the organization of Wal-Mart's movies section. It's so difficult to find anything. I also hate those weird curved shelves they always use for the movies section, they make my eyes bleed trying to browse the covers, it like messes with my vision or something.
Kinda weird, since Walmart is basically purging, most physical media. The two Walmarts by me, barely have physical movies. They both got rid of the discount Blu-ray bins.
I have to drive to a Walmart 30 minutes away, to look in the $5-$7 bin.
Damn... just bought the Indicator release a few months ago.
I doubt this release will have any supplemental material though, given Mill Creek Entertainment's abysmal track record of releases.
Looks interesting. _I own the WaSC/HBdtM double and the Walmart near me recently remodeled and honestly has a larger amount of physical media than the closest Best buy.
This retro packaging looks more fun than the HMV retro packing, though I don't understand why the Blu-ray is still within the slimline blue case. Looks like packaging within packaging within packaging?
Not to shit on Mill Creek but if you want an amazing version of the film with the original artwork, order the UK version. For those looking for When A Stranger Calls, Second Sight is releasing a wicked special edition in the UK that will undoubtedly be region free.
Mill Creek might get a lot of flack but I own their When a Stranger Calls/Happy Birthday to Me double feature Bluray and I was surprised how good the presentations for both were, most especially Happy Birthday to Me. Not only that but MC upped the remixed stereo track from the Anchor Bay DVD to 5.1 and it actually sounds pretty good. The once-lost original score composed by Bo Harwood & Lance Rubin gets a nice atmospheric spread across the 5.1 channel soundfield. The score is my only reason for watching this movie. It's a pretty boring film to me with a very ridiculous audience-insulting ending. Whether it's Mill Creek or Anchor Bay or Blue Underground or Arrow releasing it, none of those studios can make this film any better. It does however look and sound good via Mill Creek. When MC is on their A-game they can knock out some amazing releases for a very nice budget-friendly price, while other times you pay for what you get which might not be much.
I have the Indicator, Why I need this? the "Retro VHS Packaging" is awful... also the cover art, blue case, overall looks cheap... judged by the art I prefer the Indicator by far.
