Kim Foreman, seen here being sworn in as Sandusky County treasurer by Judge John Dewey on Oct. 1, with grandson Walter Foreman at her side, was appointed by the Republican Party Tuesday to serve out Irma Celestino's remaining term as treasurer through December 2020.

FREMONT - The Sandusky County Republican Central Committee approved Kim Foreman to serve out Irma Celestino's term as county treasurer Tuesday

Foreman said earlier this month she was planning to fill the term after Celestino retired last month and run for re-election as treasurer in 2020.

Sandusky County Republican Party Chairman Justin Smith said Foreman was one of three candidates to express interest in the position, with Stacy Dickman and Rick Holland also considered for the treasurer's post.

"I think she will do a good job. We had three good candidates," Smith said Tuesday night.

Foreman, a Clyde resident, was appointed by the Sandusky County Commissioners and sworn in Oct. 1 to fill the unexpired term left when Celestino retired Sept. 28.

Foreman had served as deputy treasurer since September 2017, and before that worked for 17 years at the Sandusky County Engineer's Office.

She served as clerk at the engineer's office, handling road and bridge contracts, grant applications and Ohio Public Works contracts.

Sandusky County Commissioner Kay Reiter told The News-Messenger earlier this month that working with Foreman since she came to the treasurer's office has shown her all she needed to know that the commissioners appointed the right person for the job.

"She had a great teacher with Irma," Reiter said. "We had the opportunity to work with her, and she's not afraid to dig in and deal with issues."

Reiter said Foreman's former boss, Sandusky County Engineer Jim Moyer, said Foreman would be a great asset to the county as treasurer.

Moyer wrote a letter of recommendation on Foreman's behalf.

Celestino, whose unexpired term runs through December 2020, was first elected treasurer in November of 2004 and sworn into office in September 2005. She had worked for Sandusky County for 45 years.
